Configuring Service Console network using "Console-Setup" tools

From ESX 4.0 Update 2, a new command-line network configuration tool called console-setup. It helps to simplify the process of creating or restoring networking in the ESX service console. It is recommended to use Physical console of the server via ILO or DRAC instead of using SSH to configure the network. Editing network configuration via SSH might cause a session disconnection and makes server not reachable via network. This Console-setup tool is completely menu driven. It will be more helpful for the administrators who hates to type commands to change the network configuration. It’s easy, just press numbers to perform your tasks. Let’s take a detailed look at it. Below the snapshot for console-setup tool with the basic options

1. Show Current vswif
2. Show Network Adapters
3. Show vSwitch/vDS Information
4. Delete vswif
5. Configure Service Console Network Interface
6. Exit

We will look at the each 5 options step by step by pressing numbers as instructed in the above snap.

Press 4 to delete the virtual switch from the ESX host. I have 2 service console network (vswif0 & vswif1). Let’s delete vswif1 for demo.
