Enabling VMware vRealize Log Insight Integrated Load Balancer

We can make use of vRealize Log Insight integrated load balancer (ILB) on a vRealize Log Insight cluster to ensure that incoming ingestion traffic is accepted by vRealize Log Insight even if some vRealize Log Insight nodes become unavailable. You can also configure multiple virtual IP addresses. It is recommended to enable the Log Insight Integrated Load balancer for the Log Insight cluster environment. Log Insight Integrated Load balancer balances the incoming traffic equally among the available Log Insight nodes in the Log Insight cluster. vRealize Log Insight clients, using both the Web user interface and ingestion (through Syslog or the Ingestion API), should connect to vRealize Log Insight via the ILB address.
Requirement for enabling Log Insight Integrated Load balancer is that all the nodes needs to be on same Layer 2 network such as behind the dame switch or otherwise able to receive ARP requests from and send ARP requests to each other. The ILB IP address should be set up so that any Log Insight node in the cluster can own it and receive traffic for it. Typically, this means that the ILB IP address will be in the same subnet as the physical address of the vRealize Log Insight nodes. Make sure you have created a DNS record the Integrated Load balancer Virtual IP in your DNS server.

The vRealize Log Insight load balancer uses a Direct Server Return (DSR) configuration. In DSR, all incoming traffic passes through the vRealize Log Insight node that is the current load balancer node while return traffic is sent from vRealize Log Insight servers directly back to the client without needing to go through the load balancer node.

Configuring VMware vRealize Log Insight Integrated Load Balancer

Once you have added the worker nodes into the vRealize Log Insight Cluster, You will be ready to configure the the Log Insight Integrated Load balancer.

Click on “New Virtual IP Address” under Integrated Load Balancer.

Specify the IP address and FQDN of the Virtual IP to be used as the Virtual IP of Log Insight Integrate Load balancer.  Click on Save. You can configure multiple virtual IP addresses (vIPs) for the Integrated Load Balancer. You can also configure a list of static tags to each v IP so that each log message received from the vIP is annotated with the configured tags.

That’s it. You will be able to see the Virtual IP ,FQDN and status of the Log Insight Integrated Load balancer. Status should be “Available”

Now you will be able to login to the vRealize Log Insight Cluster using the Virtual IP Address configured as Integrated Load balancer.

Once logged into the Log Insight using Virtual IP address using Integrated load balancer FQDN. You will be able to see the logs and events from the Log Insight portal.

That’s it. We are done with the configuring VMware vRealize Log Insight Integrated Load balancer. I hope this is informative for you. Thanks for Reading!!1. Be social and share it in social media, if you feel worth sharing it.
