vCloud Director Series Part 2 – Installing the VMware vCloud Networking and Security Manager 5.1

Configuring vShield Manager is one of the pre-requisites for vCloud director. vShield Manager now part of of the collective name called ” vCloud Networking and Security”. This post is going to explain how to deploy the vCloud Networking and Security (vShield Manager 5.1) from the OVF template. vCloud Networking and Security Manager provides network services to vCloud Director and to vCenter Server. A unique vShield instance must be installed for each vCenter Server instance used by vCloud Director.

Connect to your vCenter server using vSphere client and Select Deploy from OVF template. Browse towards the location of OVF template of vShield Manager. Click on Next.

vSphere Client automatically detects about the details about the deployed OVF template. Verify the information and click on Next
Read the End User License Agreement and click on Accept. Click on Next to proceed with the next

Enter the name for your vCloud Networking and Security Manager(vShield Manager) and click on Next

Select the Datastore to store the deployed virtual machine and click on Next

Select one of the Virtual Machine disk format. I have choose Thin Provision format to save my storage space . Click on Next.

Select one of  the virtual machine port group from the list for the network communication for the vShield manager. Review the options selected and click on Finish. It will take few minutes to complete the deployment
